Dear Friends and Members of the Architectural, Surveying and Planning Functional Constituency,

Recently, the media has reported that the formation of an “alliance” composed of 12 LegCo Members from different affiliations is in progress (including Professionals Forum, Economic Synergy, Liberal Party, etc.).

This “new alliance” (yet to be registered and named) consists of the industrial, business and professional sectors and it is similar to “The Alliance” in 2004 (with Hon Bernard CHAN, Ir Dr Hon Raymond HO, Dr Hon LUI Ming-wah and Hon Abraham SHEK) and the “Professionals Forum” in 2008 (with Ir Dr Hon Raymond HO, Dr Hon Priscilla LEUNG and Hon Abraham SHEK) that I have participated in LegCo.

It is an association of LegCo colleagues sharing common goals to support policies for the benefit of the Hong Kong people.  With a stronger united front in LegCo, we will be able to influence the Government even more with the voices from our professional constituents.

We are still in a very early stage of organising this new alliance and we will be trying hard to fine tune the way we can associate and cooperate with the members.  We will have a larger pool of resources for research and a wider spectrum of contacts.  However, we are NOT bound to vote on motions or concerned matters in absolute unison.

As always, I will keep in contact with my advisers and other constituents through various channels in my involvement with HKIA, HKILA, HKIP and HKIS.

Patrick Lau
